Certified Fire Watch Personnel for Construction and Hot Work

Power Safety Service LLC provides trained and certified fire watch personnel for construction sites, hot work operations, and facilities across Northern California. Our fire watch teams are equipped, trained, and ready to deploy whenever your project requires fire safety monitoring.

Fire watch is required by OSHA, NFPA, and local fire codes during and after hot work operations including welding, cutting, grinding, brazing, and soldering. It is also required when fire protection systems are impaired or taken offline during construction. We provide the personnel so your crew can focus on the work.

When Fire Watch Is Required

Hot Work Operations

Any welding, cutting, grinding, or brazing operation that produces sparks, flame, or extreme heat requires a dedicated fire watch person. OSHA 29 CFR 1926.352 and NFPA 51B mandate fire watch during hot work and for a minimum of 30 minutes after completion. Many facility owners and general contractors require longer post-work monitoring periods.

Impaired Fire Protection Systems

When sprinkler systems, fire alarms, or fire suppression systems are shut down for construction, testing, or repair, fire watch personnel must be stationed to monitor the affected area. Building codes and insurance requirements both mandate this coverage.

Construction in High-Risk Environments

Projects in wildfire-prone areas, near combustible materials storage, in occupied buildings, and around sensitive equipment may require fire watch even when hot work is not being performed. Local fire marshals may also impose fire watch requirements as a condition of permit approval.

Demolition Work

Demolition activities that expose combustible materials, disturb fire protection systems, or create dust and debris hazards often require dedicated fire watch coverage.

What Our Fire Watch Personnel Do

Each Power Safety fire watch team member is trained to:

  • Maintain continuous visual surveillance of the work area and surrounding spaces
  • Monitor for sparks, embers, smoldering materials, and heat transmission through walls and floors
  • Maintain readiness with appropriate fire extinguishing equipment
  • Know the location and operation of fire extinguishers, fire alarm pull stations, and emergency exits
  • Sound the alarm immediately if a fire is detected
  • Attempt first-response fire suppression if safe to do so
  • Contact the fire department if the fire cannot be controlled immediately
  • Maintain a written log of fire watch activities and observations
  • Communicate with hot work operators about hazardous conditions

Our Fire Watch Equipment

Every fire watch person arrives with:

  • Appropriate fire extinguisher(s) for the materials present (ABC, CO2, or Class D as needed)
  • Two-way radio communication
  • Fire watch log and documentation forms
  • High-visibility safety vest and hard hat
  • Flashlight for inspection of concealed spaces
  • PPE appropriate to the work environment

Coverage and Scheduling

We provide fire watch coverage for:

  • Single shifts: Day, swing, or graveyard
  • 24-hour coverage: Rotating shifts for continuous monitoring
  • Project-duration coverage: Full project timeline from start to completion
  • Post-work monitoring: 30-minute, 1-hour, 2-hour, or 4-hour post-hot-work monitoring periods

We schedule fire watch around your project timeline. If your welding crew starts at 6 AM, our fire watch person is on site at 6 AM. If hot work ends at 10 PM and you need 4 hours of post-work monitoring, we cover until 2 AM.
